The Inner Marriage: Healing the Deepest Longing of the Soul
This is the heart of the Alchemy and of the attraction between the sexes. Alchemy is not just about combining Yin and Yang in marriage. That is outer alchemy.
Internal Alchemy is about combining the inner Yin within the Yang, and the inner Yang within the Yin. Each of us does this within ourselves, either consciously or unconsciously through crisis.
The basic theory is that the essence of anything is in its opposite. You can see this clearly in the Yin-Yang symbol. So if you are a male, your essence is in the female. If you are a female, your essence is in the male.
That is why you are drawn to it in the outer world. You are trying to grasp it internally. It is why, when you make deep passionate love with someone you are deeply attracted to, you long to merge and become one with your lover.
This often happens right after making love, while you lie peacefully together in the energetic exchange, when you lose your separate identities and merge. Physically, this is not possible, even though every atom of you longs for it.
We all have an outer, changing essence. But what stabilises us is this inner, opposite, complementary essence.
Just as Yin and Yang need each other to form a whole. So you exist in the physical world as one polarity, in a male or female body. But what truly holds you whole is this inner opposite.
This is why, when you enter a relationship, it can feel like it is balancing you out. But it is not really balancing you until you have internalised it.
This is the hidden purpose of all relationships. To unfold what is unconscious deep inside you. The relationship holds a stable outer space so that you can receive the teaching your partner brings.
Now comes the most important point. If you are a male, until you find the inner female, and if you are a female, until you find the inner male, your soul will not feel complete. You will keep seeking.
And simply saying “all is one” will not address this basic body longing.
The Wu Ji Inner Alchemy School addresses this longing directly. As you move through the School, you learn a profound Inner Alchemy formula called the Lesser Enlightenment of Water and Fire, to initiate the completion of this longing within yourself.
This inner marriage happens deep in the central channel of the body. And just as an outer relationship often results in a child, so does this one. But this time you are birthing the original spirit, the Yuan Chi, the hidden third stream of the life force.
This is the hidden meaning behind what Jesus said. “Unless you become as a little child you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Heaven here is a code word for unity consciousness.
You see, there are always three streams to the life force. Expanding is the Yang. Contracting is the Yin. And the hidden third force stabilises them both. Without it, neither could exist. It is never two forces. Whenever you have two, there are always three.
So the longer you stay in a conscious relationship, the more this invisible stabilising energy arises out of your attraction. The same happens in Internal Alchemy practice. You bring the inner soul forces together in your central channel, and you open a portal to the original spirit, the holy of holies, that part of us beyond time, beyond conditioning, beyond karma.
You begin to birth this original spirit into your healed energy body.
Slowly, your identity shifts from the outer-sexed body and its dramas toward this inner essence, which is androgynous.
Your physical body stays as it is, of course. But the powerful soul longing for the opposite begins to calm. Your soul body now has access to the stabilising original spirit, and your longing starts to be completed.
